Large Language Model Ethology

LLM Ethology is a new alignment research agenda, focused on studying LLM systems with an ethological approach.

This sequence' goal isn't to put rigorous framing and build foundations for later research, but to shine a light on this new approach, present potential research avenues, and spark a fresh perspective.

Most of this research has been conducted during SERI Mats 3. I'd like to thank all the people that made this research possible, and @NicholasKees for his mentoring and invaluable advice.

Also, a particular thanks to all the reviewers who helped me make this sequence go from a random 45-pages babble to a (hopefully) interesting sequence of posts:

P.S. I wasn't satisfied enough with the rest of the sequence, so I didn't post 80% of it. But I am going to slowly release more post in the coming month that build on top of the research we have been been doing with @Pierre Peigné during 2024 and 2025, and the field studies I've pursued during this time.
