Large Language Model Ethology

LLM Ethology is an alignment research agenda, focused on studying LLM systems with an ethological approach.

This sequence' goal isn't to put rigorous framing and build foundations for later research, but to shine a light on this new approach, present potential research avenues, and spark a fresh perspective.

Most of this research has been conducted during SERI Mats 3. I'd like to thank all the people that made this research possible, and @NicholasKees for his mentoring and invaluable advice.

Also, a particular thanks to all the reviewers who helped me make this sequence go from a random 45-pages babble to a (hopefully) interesting sequence of posts:

[edit] I wasn't satisfied enough with the rest of the sequence, so I didn't post 80% of it. But I am going to slowly release more post that build on top of the research we have been been doing with @Pierre Peigné during 2024 and 2025, and the field studies I've been doing since then.
